Organization

Since academic year 2012/13 the new Graduate School in Physics includes the old Graduate Schools in Physics and Applied Physics and the Galileo Galilei School.

The coordinator of the Graduate School in Physics is prof. Massimo D'Elia.

The Graduate School is open to graduate students from any university; admittance is by public selection , usually opening each summer. Admission exams are usually in September, although students graduating within October can also apply.

A number of three-year grants is available each year, to be assigned to the best-ranking students in the selection; admission with no grant is also allowed for selected students. Students with a grant from national or international organizations which foresee participation to a Ph.D. program can also join the school.

During the first years the students must follow some courses with exams as determined by the graduate school rules. Graduate students are awarded a small personal research budget and have increased grants for limited periods spent abroad.
Normally after three years or more the students submit and defend a research thesis to be awarded the Ph.D. title.

Previous coordinators of the PhD School in Physics: prof. D. Pisignano (2018-2020), prof. M. Sozzi (2012-2018) and prof. K. Konishi (up to 2012).
Previous president of the Graduate School in Applied Physics of the Galilei School (up to 2012): prof. F. Pegoraro.
